Somewhere in my early forties, I started noticing little things. I wasn’t bouncing back from exercise the way I used to. A niggle in my arm turned into a sports injury that stubbornly stuck around. I felt more tired, and sometimes I caught myself wondering if my memory was as sharp as it used to be. Was I just imagining it… or was something shifting?
Of course, I now know the answer: yes, something was changing. Midlife has its own rhythm and while it brings challenges, it also opened up a whole new chapter for me. One I hadn’t really considered before: healthy ageing.
Part of it was personal. My mum developed Alzheimer’s, which naturally made me more curious (and cautious) about supporting her and protecting my own and my children’s future health. And part of it was moving to Spain, where I couldn’t help but fall a little in love with the Mediterranean lifestyle. The food, the pace, the sunshine… it made me pause and wonder: what if getting older could actually turn into something positive?
I started digging. And the more I looked into things, the more curious I got. I learned about the Blue Zones ; those remarkable places where people live longer, healthier lives. I discovered how important it is to eat 30+ different plant-based foods a week. I began following scientists in nutrition, neuroscience, and longevity. I even read research papers and tried to translate them into simple, everyday habits.
Slowly, I began making changes in my own life. I now cook more from scratch, bake my own sourdough bread, try to reduce ultra-processed foods and almost always start my day with Greek yogurt, berries and nuts. I’m experimenting with creatine. I exercise more. And yes… I’ve embraced the beauty of a Spanish siesta.
This blog is my place to share what I’m learning. Not from a place of ‘I’ve got it all figured out’ (far from it), but from a place of curiosity, honesty and hope. Healthy ageing isn’t about trying to stay 25 forever. It’s about feeling good in your skin, having energy for the things that matter and staying connected; to yourself and to the people around you.
So, if you’re somewhere around midlife too, or just curious about how to age well, you’re very welcome here. Let’s figure it out together.
Hasta pronto,
